Section of road in Lenoir County will permanently close

LENOIR COUNTY, NC (WITN) - One section of a road in Lenoir County will permanently close due to the C.F. Harvey Parkway Expansion project.

A section of E.N. Dickerson Road will close due to the construction of the new bypass. The section that is closing is just off Humphrey Road.

Beginning Monday morning, you will no longer be able to turn off of Humphrey Road onto E.N. Dickerson road.

Southbound traffic on the E.N. Dickerson, coming from Taylor Hath Road, will have no outlet until construction of the service road is completed, which will include a tie-in at E.N. Dickerson Road.

Once the tie-in is complete, the service road will allow traffic traveling Southbound to be connected to NC 58. Construction of the service road is expected to take about three weeks to finish.

DOT Engineer Aaron Bullard said, "We are trying to improve the connectivity between the northern piece of Lenoir County connecting NC 11 and 58."

The $73.5 million project will extend the four-lane freeway by 5.8 miles, improving connectivity in Northern Kinston between U.S. 70, NC 58 and NC 11.

The project is expected to be substantially completed by 2021, with vegetation work finishing in 2022. As of right now, officials say the project is ahead of schedule.
