Woman charged with murder, arson following Nash County fire

NASH COUNTY, NC (WITN) - A woman is charged with first degree murder and arson after a man was found dead in a fire.

Nash County deputies arrested 32-year-old Alayna Sherrod of Bailey Tuesday. She is being held without bond pending her first court appearance Thursday.

The fire happened on Strickland Road outside of Bailey.

Deputies say they got a search warrant to determine a cause for the mobile home fire and during the search, they found the body of 59-year-old Marcelino Ponce-Gonzales in one of the bedrooms.

His body will be sent to the medical examiner's office in Greenville for an autopsy.

Deputies say they are getting a search warrant so they can go inside the burned-out mobile home and determine how the fire started.
