Pitt County Schools says that six students of the thirty on board a bus involved in an accident this morning were taken to the hospital.
Officials say that the bus was transporting Farmville Central High School and Farmville Middle School students to class when it was involved in the accident near Stantonsburg Road and Wesley Church Road near Farmville.
We're told that the six students taken to the hospital are in good condition.
The rest of the students were taken back to the schools after being medically cleared.
The school system says its bus driver was not at fault and that protocol will be followed to inspect and repair the bus involved.
The Highway Patrol is investigating an accident involving a school bus this morning.
It happened just after 8 a.m. near Wesley Church Road and Stantonsburg Road outside of Farmville.
Troopers tell us that Kail McKinney was heading North on Wesley Church Road when he failed to yield to another pickup truck. Officials say McKinney did not give right of way to the other driver and ended up hitting a school bus as a result.
Troopers say that 30 children were on the bus and that some had to go to the hospital. The trooper we spoke to at the scene did not know the extent of their injuries.
McKinney was taken to an area hospital as well.
No word yet on charges in the accident.
