A school bus driver has been charged after a crash this afternoon injured 11 people, including 9 children.

It happened around 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 17 and Mill Inn Road, south of Williamston.

Trooper Brian Allen said the Martin County school bus was heading south on U.S. 17 when he made a left turn onto the side road in front of an oncoming vehicle.

Twenty-five children from Rodgers Elementary School were on the bus, and the nine kids injured were taken to the emergency room at Martin General Hospital to be checked out.

Two people in the other vehicle were also taken to the hospital.

Allen said the bus driver, Christopher Bracy, 50, of Williamston, was charged with failure to yield. The trooper said the bus driver told him he thought he had more time to make the turn than what he actually had.
