SLIPPERY SITUATION: Tractor-trailer carrying used restaurant grease overturns

MARTIN COUNTY, NC (WITN) - It was a slippery situation for several hours this morning on one Eastern Carolina highway after a tractor-trailer full of grease flipped over.

State troopers say the crash happened at the intersection of Prison Camp Road and Everetts Road in Martin County around 7:35 a.m.

Trooper Haywood Singleton says a Valley Protein truck ran a stop sign at the intersection, colliding with an SUV which was northbound on Prison Camp Road.

The big rig overturned, spilling diesel fuel and used grease that it had picked up from area restaurants.

Singleton says the mess took nearly 3-1/2 hours to clean up.

Luckily, no one was injured in the crash. The tractor-trailer driver, 58-year-old Larry Roberts from Littleton, was charged with failure to stop at a stop sign.
