Mother & son killed in crash identified; dump truck driver charged
Troopers have identified the mother and her seven-year-old son who were killed Monday in a vehicle crash in Lenoir County.
Marie Holt, 29, and Caleb Oneil, both of Trenton, were in a vehicle that was hit head-on by a dump truck on U.S. 258, south of Kinston, according to the Highway Patrol.
The dump truck driver, Bradley Hardy, 33, of Nashville, has been charged with two counts of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
The Highway Patrol says they are still investigating why the dump truck crossed the center line and hit the woman's car.

Highway Patrol troopers say they are working to determine what led a dump truck driver to cross the center line.
The latest from the investigating trooper is that the driver of that dump truck is charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
Highway Patrol has still not released the names of the driver or the victims.
Sgt. Scott Hemby says the accident happened around 9:15 a.m. in Lenoir County on Highway 258 near Pleasant Hill Road.
Sgt. Hemby says a dump truck crossed the center line of the highway and struck a Honda Accord, which the two victims were in.
Multiple fire departments responded to the scene and a portion of Highway 258 was closed while crews cleared the scene.
Troopers say they did take a statement from the driver of the dump truck but are still working to determine exactly what happened.
"So right now, we're just trying to figure out what happened to cause him to go left of center, but right now, that's what all of the evidence is telling us, so we're just trying to piece those things together," Hemby says.
He also says that a bystander at the scene tried to give the young child CPR but both the toddler and the driver died at the scene.
The driver of the dump truck was taken to the hospital for injuries.
Troopers tell WITN this accident remains under investigation.

The investigating trooper is at the hospital interviewing the driver of the truck.
Pink Hill and Deep Run fire departments responded to the scene.
The Lenoir County Sheriff says that a toddler and another person are dead following a two vehicle wreck.
Sheriff Ronnie Ingram tells WITN that the accident happened this morning on Highway 258 South near Pleasant Hill Road in the area of Pink Hill.
The DOT says that the road has since reopened.
