ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WITN) - One Eastern Carolina police department is stepping up its efforts to solve murders in the city it serves.
The Rocky Mount Police Department now has a Cold Case Homicide Task Force. The group, created by interim Chief Willie Williams, will work to solve the city's unsolved murders, including those committed as recently as last year.
The newly created squad is the second phase of WIlliams' efforts to reorganize the department's homicide squad.
"The mission of the Rocky Mount Police department is to provide the highest level of police service to this community," said Williams.
He added that while the squad's main goal is to close the book on cold cases once and for all, the long term goal is to make Rocky Mount safer.
