Shooting in Roanoke Rapids overnight

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred at approximately 1 a.m.on Saturday morning.

C.T. Hasty Jr., Chief of Police, stated that the police department received several calls all reporting a shooting outside the Mir's Sports Bar and Grill on Julian Allsbrook Highway.

When arriving on scene, officers found several vehicles with damage from gunshots and were notified that the victim was taken to the hospital by a third party.

Officers then responded to the hospital and discovered that three people had been shot.

The preliminary investigation has revealed an altercation inside the bar that spilled over into the parking lot when shots were fired.

Two of the three victims have been released after treatment, while the third victim was transported to a trauma center for treatment of their serious injuries.

The investigation is in the early stages and officers are following up leads and are reviewing statements given by witnesses.
