Ribbon cutting held for new water resources facility in New Bern

NEW BERN, NC (WITN) The city of New Bern celebrated the opening of its new water resources operations facility Wednesday morning.

City officials cut the ribbon of the just under 1,900 square foot facility.

The building has been in operation since August of this year and cost just under $1.4 million to build.

The building consists of administrative space, equipment and material storage, as well as a pump repair shop and refueling center for field employees.

The city of New Bern provides water service to more than 16,000 customers and city engineer Jordan Hughes says that the opportunity to get all their staff under one roof will help streamline their processes

Hughes says, "It allows us to get more work done faster, and that helps us be able to maintain infrastructure a little better and as the infrastructure gets a littler older and there is more work to do, it's always great to find ways to streamline the operation and get more done with less resources."

Officials say the facility sits on approximately 80 acres of land which will allow for further city resource development in the future.

Hughes adds existing customers will not see any impacts to their monthly water bills as a result of the new facility.
