After some delays, a highly anticipated road project to extend the life of one bridge here in the east is set to start today.

One lane of Highway 58 on the Emerald Isle bridge will close from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. starting Tuesday, November 12 and will last each weekday through Friday, November 22.

Overnight weekend lane closures will start after Thanksgiving on Friday, December 6 and are expected to last through spring.

The overnight closures were originally scheduled to begin last month but had to be pushed back for prep work like painting.

The project will cost 15 million dollars and is meant to extend the life of the bridge.

Anyone who drives on it should use caution and expect delays for the next several months.
