GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) - The annual Down East Walk to Defeat ALS is back at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium in Greenville on Saturday, May 11.
Organizers say roughly 600-700 people are currently living with ALS in North Carolina. Lou Gehrig's disease, also known as ALS, affects the function of nerves and muscles. There is no cure.
The walk is a 2-mile loop through the neighborhoods surrounding Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
Registration opens at 9am with the walk at 10am on Saturday, May 11.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the North Carolina Chapter of the ALS Association to help local patients and families.
