GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) A state agency says that a company responsible for installing red light cameras in several cities in our state, including here in the east, may have been doing so without proper licensing.
The State Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors says they believe that American Traffic Solutions could have been installing red light cameras without an engineer approved by the state board.
The board issued a statement late last month saying that American Traffic Solutions may have been practicing or offering to practice engineering or surveying without being licensed by the state board. which is a violation of general statute.
ATS has installed red light cameras in Fayettville, Wilmington, and Greenville.
WITN spoke to Greenville city officials who say they do not believe that problem exists for their red light cameras.
Brock Letchworth, Greenville Public Information Officer says, "We feel like ATS is in compliance with the requirements with the state. Our city traffic engineer required that they have their plans stamped and approved by a North Carolina professional engineer and that they did so for all of the cameras that were installed at each of the intersections that we have in the city so we feel like everything is on the up and up.
Greenville has five red light cameras in place for just over a year now.
