JACKSONVILLE, NC (WITN) - From a military career to a published author, a man born and raised here in eastern North Carolina is giving credit to his roots for his accomplishments as a writer.
Danny Gray is from Maple Hill, a small town just outside of Jacksonville. He is the son of a retired marine stationed at Camp Lejeune, who left his hometown to pursue his own military career. But he says he always wanted to write.
It was over the past several years when Gray would come home to Onslow County, that he would sit down in a local coffee shop to write stories, what would soon become published novels.
One of his works, yet to be published tells a story that is reminiscent of his own beginnings.
Danny Gray said, "It tells the story of a young man that was growing up in the south, or growing up here in Maple Hill, and him working in the blueberry fields, him working in the tobacco fields, and the potato fields, and actually wanting a little more, and how he stepped away from this community to grow himself."
Gray's third novel, in a series of 3, is titled Dedication's Revenge. It will come out in May and he says he plans to arrange a book launch event in Jacksonville.
