Police win New Bern's 'Battle of the Badges' blood drive

NEW BERN, NC (WITN) - The results are in and the men and women in blue won the latest "Battle of the Badges" in one Eastern Carolina city.

On Friday, police and firefighters from New Bern competed against each other to see which group could get the most blood donations for the American Red Cross.

The results were announced this morning with the police department getting 70 units of blood, while the fire department obtained 60.

There were a total of 139 units, as nine donors did not choose a side.

The blood can save up to 417 lives, according to the Red Cross.
