Arrest made in New Bern shooting

NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) -- An arrest has been made in a shooting in New Bern from over the weekend.

Marcus Bell has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The shooting happened around 4:10 p.m. Sunday in the 800 block of Broad Street. Ryan Jones, of New Bern, was last reported in stable condition at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Police said the arrest of Bell came after citizens spoke up about the shooting.

The 31-year-old New Bern man went before a judge this morning and remains jailed on a $40,000 secured bond.

One person has been hospitalized following a shooting in New Bern on Sunday afternoon.

New Bern police say that 20-year-old Ryan Jones from New Bern was shot on Broad Street near Bern Street.

Jones was taken to CarolinaEast Medical Center before being transferred to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. Officers say he is in stable condition.

Police say the shooting is still under investigation. No arrests have been made.
