Police: Pawn shop employee shot during attempted armed robbery

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WITN) -- Police in Fayetteville say a pawn shop employee was shot while trying to lock up his store Saturday night.

According to authorities, Ronald Ruple, 63, was shot in the leg while closing up at Bragg Pawn Shop.

Police say Ruple drew his own weapon and fired back at the suspect.

The suspect is still missing after taking off into a nearby wooded area.

A preliminary investigation indicates the shooting could have been part of an attempted robbery.
