A Greenville police officer is on administrative leave after she was charged with driving under the influence.

In a press release, the Greenville Police Department says that officer Alison Blackmon was off-duty in her own car when she crashed on Highway 13 in Sampson County.

The accident happened around 3:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon. No other vehicles were involved.

Greenville police spokesperson Kristen Hunter says Blackmon is a police officer assigned to the Fields Operations Bureau and has worked with the department for almost five years.

Blackmon was charged with DWI and has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

The Highway Patrol is handling the investigation.
