Greene Central sophomore tennis standout McKinsey Harper is our newest WITN Pepsi Player of the Week!

Greene Central is mighty proud of its varsity girls tennis program, and rightfully so. In fact, the Rams have won 25 straight conference titles! No doubt one of the most impressive streaks in North Carolina High School Athletics history.

This year, the Rams are at it again, currently undefeated (9-0) following Monday's win at New Bern.

Leading the way for the team is sophomore standout McKinsey Harper.

"She's definitely on pace to be one of the best players ever to come out of Greene Central," head coach Tim Medlin said.

Midway through her sophomore season, Harper is on pace to eclipse 150 varsity wins.

"That's crazy, especially since I'm just a sophomore," Harper said.

"To be a sophomore and have the success level that she's had. 55 wins already in two years," added Medlin. "She's on a 23-game winning streak in doubles. That's impressive stuff. And we at Greene Central are thrilled that we're going to have her the rest of this year and two more years after that."

Tennis stars like McKinsey Harper don't come around often. Self-driven. Good teammate. Coachable. She's got it all.

"She's definitely a power player," said Medlin. "No doubt about it. She's going to bring it to you."

"I love to hit hard," added Harper. "I do not like to hit soft. Hard shots are my favorite shots."

And Harper says she's proud to usher this program's legacy into a new quarter-century.

"I'm just glad to be a part of it," said Harper. "Not a lot of people have the opportunity to be a part of this team. And we just have a really great team and great coaches everywhere."

"I think the whole Greene Central community is just very proud of what she is," said Medlin. "She's a good student, a great player, and a good person. That's all you can ask for."

Harper and her doubles partner, freshman Kristen Colie are 17-0 so far this season.
