North Edgecombe senior football and basketball standout I'Jheaur Sharpe is our newest WITN Pepsi Player of the Week!

After starting the season 1-3, North Edgecombe football has since rolled off nine consecutive victories. So the Warriors are now 10-3 and getting set for the regional round of the 1A state playoffs.

Leading the way for the Orange and Black is their versatile senior quarterback, I'Jheaur Sharpe.

His last name is Sharpe, and boy does he bring the edge!

"He's not afraid to take a hit," said North Edgecombe head football coach Jason (Jay) Miller. "He's not afraid to make a tough throw."

Miller likes to describe Sharpe as "fearless."

"I am able to stand in there and take tough hits while I deliver the ball, or can throw the ball on the run and still be accurate," Sharpe said at practice Monday.

The senior quarterback can do it all, and he mirrors his versatile game after one of the NFL's leading MVP candidates, Baltimore's Lamar Jackson.

And just like Jackson, opponents have no answers for Sharpe.

"My mobility, being able to make hard cuts and make people miss," added Sharpe on why he's so dangerous.

"[Sharpe's versatility] has helped us to open things up a little bit more," said Miller. "We've passed the ball more this year than we've passed in quite a long time."

Sharpe has really helped Jay Miller expand North Edgecombe's offense. Once entirely reliant on the run, the Warriors now pass, as well.

"We can pound it," said Sharpe. "We can play action throw it down the field. So we really keep teams on their toes."

Sharpe has passed for nearly 800 yards so far this season, throwing eight touchdowns and rushing for six more.

But it's his leadership, along with the other seniors, that has truly helped transform this program.

"I'm going to miss him coming over [on the sideline], and I'll say, 'Let's try this. I think this is going to work.' And just we kind of developed that relationship over the last two years, where I'm like, 'Just trust me on this play,'" Miller said.

Sharpe and the No. 2 Warriors (10-3) are just one win away from reaching the 1A state championship. They will need to get past No. 4 Northampton County (10-3) in the Eastern Regional Final this upcoming Friday at 7:30 p.m. North Edgecombe actually beat the Jaguars during the regular season, 46-29.
