Player of the Week: CeCe Wilkerson
J.H. Rose senior volleyball standout CeCe Wilkerson is our newest WITN Pepsi Player of the Week!
"I told my mom at our 7th grade middle school championship, I was like, 'Mom, I'm going to be Pepsi Player of the Week by the time I graduate.' And here it is. I'm so excited," Wilkerson said at practice Monday afternoon.
Well CeCe, you deserve it.
"She's our strongest blocker," said J.H. Rose head coach Kelley Krainiak. "She's our power hitter, so this is definitely well-deserved."
The senior middle blocker is also a team captain, a great leader for this Rampants team.
"She became such a huge part of our team in the front row, and developing as a leader; as a senior on top of that, has just been really fun to watch," Krainiak added.
But CeCe knows that fun is soon coming to an end. Her four-year varsity volleyball career is almost over. But she says she'll always love the sport.
"Just making the most of every moment that you have," said Wilkerson. "Just having fun with the serious times and the fun times, I think it's a good thing."
Krainiak also said that Wilkerson's versatile net presence is just half of what makes her so dynamic on the court.
"I just love how far she's come in a single season.," said Krainiak. "She's really made progress. And it's nice to see seniors improving so much mentally and physically. It's important, and that's what I love about her."
The 17th-seeded Rampants (16-11) got swept by top-seeded Chapel Hill (23-1) Tuesday in the second round of the 2019 3A High School Girls Volleyball State Tournament.
