GRIFTON, NC (WITN) - Saturday is the last day to buy liquor in Grifton. The local ABC store is closing its doors for good following a unanimous vote by the Pitt County ABC Board.
The reasons for shuttering the Queen Street location include a continuous drop in sales for the past five years, and an increase in expenses, according to the board.
Customers in the area are being told to travel about eight miles and use the ABC location on West Third Street in Ayden.
The closing of the Grifton store will leave Pitt County with eight liquor stores.
Residents of one Eastern Carolina town will soon have to go a little farther to buy their alcohol.
The Pitt County ABC says it will close its location in Grifton on March 16th.
The board cites a continuous drop in sales over the past five years and an increase in expenses as reasons for shuttering the Queen Street location.
The vote to close the store was unanimous.
