PITT COUNTY, NC (WITN) The Pitt County Animal Shelter has received it's largest donation in over a decade and a half to help with Hurricane Florence related expenses.
Shelter Director Michele Whaley says the shelter received an online donation of $5,000 Thursday from AKC Reunite, a lost pet finding service.
Whaley says it's the largest donation received in her 16-years working there.
The shelter has been caring for 100's of animals since Hurricane Florence struck the east and the funds will help offset those costs.
Whaley says, "It will help replace the food and the medicines and some of the needs. We've had a couple of animals that came in during the storm that needed medical care so it will help pay those vet bills."
Whaley also says pet owners who dropped off their animals for safe keeping during the storm need to pick them up immediately.
