Pirates will have last practice in Charlotte on Aug. 20
The East Carolina Pirates will invade Charlotte to complete preseason training camp according to announcement by first-year head football coach Scottie Montgomery during ECU's Media Day on Saturday afternoon.
After conducting the program's first 20 practices on campus, Montgomery and his staff will direct a public workout at Rocky River High School on Saturday, Aug. 20. The full-pad practice, open to all Pirate Club members, fans and media, will begin at 2:45 p.m. and conclude at approximately 5:15 p.m.
Team posters, schedule cards and ticket information will be available for everyone in attendance, while players and coaches will sign autographs afterwards.
"A key component of training camp is to develop team unity and an identity for the upcoming season," Montgomery said. "Not only will this trip serve as a bonding experience and rehearsal for road game preparation, it will be in a city we have a tremendous appreciation and value for.
"I'm excited to take our football team to Charlotte and for them to enjoy an opportunity to meet another passionate part of Pirate Nation."
ECU will begin the day in meetings inside the Ward Sports Medicine Building before departing for Charlotte at 8:45 a.m. Upon arrival at RRHS at 1:30 p.m., the Pirates will follow a customary pre-game routine of taping, dressing and treatment prior to the 2:45 flex (stretch) period. After dinner and individual meetings, Montgomery's squad will spend the night in the Queen City before bussing back to the East Carolina campus at noon Sunday.
With classes beginning the following day, ECU will return to its traditional in-season practice schedule Tuesday afternoon.
