Pine Knoll Shores Police Department collecting for food pantry
A police department in the east is hoping to help keep the shelves of an emergency food pantry stocked during the holidays.
The Pine Knoll Shores Police Department is collecting non-perishable food items for Martha's Mission Cupboard in Morehead City for the next five weeks.
Police Chief Ryan Thompson says holding drives like this is a big part of his job, because he knows how big of an impact the volunteer run pantry has on Carteret County and those in need.
Thompson says, "It's the most important part of what we do is to give back. You know we like to say that we serve and protect, not protect and serve, serving to us is more important and Martha's Mission may be in Morehead but they serve people from all over the county."
The police department is accepting donations at their station until December 10th.
