This week's Pet of the Week from the Humane Society of Eastern Carolina is Peter.

Peter is a short-haired black and white cat who is about two-and-a-half years old.

He was adopted as a kitten, but was recently abandoned and returned to the humane society as an adult.

Volunteers say he is very affectionate and lovable. They say he is a good starter cat because he is very tame and quiet.

He is looking for a forever home just in time for the holidays and would love to have someone to cuddle up with during the cold winter months.

If you're looking to get a pet or give a pet as a gift for the holidays, volunteers advise that you make that decision as a family. They say to make sure there is a person in charge of that pet and responsibilities are outlined beforehand.

Gift cards to the humane society are available as an option for the holidays, as well.

The humane society will have new hours and will be open from 1- 5 pm on Thursday’s and Friday’s, from 11- 4 pm on Saturday’s and 1- 4 pm on Sunday’s.

The Humane Society of Eastern Carolina brings adoptable animals every Wednesday at 6:25 a.m. on WITN News at Sunrise.
