KINSTON, NC (WITN) - Kinston business owners are hoping the pains of construction in front of their businesses will be worth it as the city works to give a much needed makeover to parts of downtown.
The city of Kinston closed queen street Monday from King to Caswell Streets as crews work on building specialized bump-outs and curbs.
This is all part of a major improvement project the city is doing along Queen Street.
The construction is expected to take six weeks and during that time, city officials say all side streets will remain open and there is still access to businesses.
Local business owners say they hope their customers will continue to supporting them through this road work.
Leraine Tolston with Queen Street Deli said, "Today is the first day the road is totally closed so I'm not sure what to expect but I think our loyal customers will keep coming back and as far as what's happening out there I'm so excited."
Detours set up to help drivers navigate the road closure and officials are encouraging people to continue supporting businesses that are impacted by the construction.
