A new student scholarship is being named after a congressman from here in the east.
Parrott Academy alumnus Grant Means started a non-profit organization to provide scholarships for the private K-12 school in Kinston.
The scholarship is named after Representative Greg Murphy and his wife, Wendy, whose three children graduated from the school.
Means says the non-profit has invested $1,000 on behalf of pre-kindergarten students.
That money is expected to grow to at least $3,000 by the time the students are high school seniors, which will provide a scholarship for one boy and one girl in the graduating class of 2033.
A kick-off event for the scholarship will take place at the academy this afternoon.
