ONSLOW COUNTY, NC (WITN) - One Eastern Carolina county is looking for a new school superintendent with today's retirement announcement.
Onslow County Schools Superintendent Rick Stout said he is retiring on January 1st.
Stout has been head of the Onslow County system for the last five years, and before that was superintendent in Scotland County. He will retire with 32 years as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, assistant superintendent, and finally superintendent.
"Rick Stout is a unique leader in that he understands instruction and capital projects," said school board chair Pam Thomas. "In the few years he has been in Onslow, he has built and strengthened partnerships that have moved our LEA to open an Early College program, build a Regional Skills Center, two new schools and continued our global and technology programs, as well as been a strong liaison between our state legislators and Board of Commissioners."
The school board will soon begin looking at how to fill the superintendent's position.
