A Former Marine arrested several states away is back in Onslow county charged with the death his roommate from back in 2013.

The Onslow County Sheriff's Office says that 26 year old Tyler Prudden was extradited from Michigan and arrived here in the east Sunday.

Prudden is charged with involuntary manslaughter in the July 2013 death of Lanija Gilpatrick.

At the time deputies responded to a report of a man who had accidentally shot himself on Dalton Court in Richlands.

Gilpatrick died a few days later -- with his death being ruled an accidental self-inflicted shooting.

A recent tip to deputies prompted them to reopen the case -- leading to eventual charges against Prudden.

The sheriff's office says that Prudden posted his $35,000 bond and had a first appearance Monday morning in court.

An extradition hearing happened this morning in Michigan Thursday morning for 26-year-old Tyler Prudden.

At the time, the July 2013 death of 22 year old Lance Corporal Lanija Gilpatrick was ruled as accidental and self-inflicted.

The case was recently reopened, and Prudden was charged last month.

Prudden will remain in a Michigan jail until Onslow County authorities arrive to bring him back.

Prudden lived with Lance Corporal LaNija Gilpatrick, according to deputies. The 22-year-old died after a shooting on July 26, 2013 on Dalton Court in Richlands.

At the time, the death was ruled as an accidental self-inflicted shooting, with investigators saying Gilpatrick looked into the barrel of a 9mm gun and shot himself in the eye.

Now deputies say they recently received a tip that Gilpatrick did not shoot himself. The case was reopened and Prudden was charged.

Prudden was arraigned today, and is being kept in a Michigan jail without bond. The man's hearing to see if he voluntarily returns to Onslow County will be on August 4th.

The Marine Corps says Prudden was a lance corporal, and got out of the service less than three months after the shooting.
