Onslow County convict found dead in state prison
An inmate who was serving time at a state prison for crimes committed in one Eastern Carolina county has died from an apparent suicide.
Officials at Central Prison in Raleigh say John Dalton, 47, was found unresponsive in his jail cell around 4 a.m. Thursday. Prison medical staff tried to resuscitate him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials say they believe the cause of death was suicide.
Dalton was serving a 6-year, 10-month sentence after being convicted of multiple felony charges in Onslow County last June.
