ONSLOW COUNTY, NC (WITN) Already looking ahead to Christmas, one community is asking for the public's help to ensure local nursing home and assisted living residents have a cheerful holiday.
Onslow County's Elder Cheer program has kicked off.
In 2018 Onslow County's Department of Social Services collected enough physical and monetary donations to make Christmas a little brighter for more than 300 elderly people in the community. This year, they're hoping to top that.
Kimberly Mecozzi, Alzheimer's Home activity director says, "It makes them smile. Christmas is just like being at home, and we try to make this as homey as possible."
Cami Fletcher, Department of Social Services says, "We're looking for socks, shampoo, blankets, lap blankets, anything that can help with care, hygiene, and any financial donations as well."
Elder Cheer donations should be taken to the Onslow County Consolidated Human Services building, located at 612 College Street in Jacksonville, by Thursday November 21st.
