Onslow Community Outreach hoping to raise $500,000 to expand services

ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - With the help of the community, one Eastern Carolina nonprofit is hoping to reach a major milestone this year.

Onslow Community Outreach says they've set a goal to raise about $500,000 by the end of the year to take full ownership of their services center building on Hargett Street.

Paying off the debt would allow the nonprofit to move its soup kitchen, Christmas Cheer program, and homeless shelter inside the building to help more people.

"Well it's going to essentially double our capacity, because if you look at us now, we can only house 26 residents in our shelter, and the seating in our soup kitchen is really limited, so just to have that extra space will be really good," Paige Kuffel, the Onslow Community Outreach resource developer.

For those wanting to help, cash or checks can be dropped off at the soup kitchen located in downtown Jacksonville.
