Man killed in police chase crash identified

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. Police have identified a man killed when a vehicle being chased by officers crashed in one Eastern Carolina county.

Rocky Mount police say Ramella Colon, 23, died from the crash in Edgecombe County.

Police say it started on Jeffreys Road just before 10:00 p.m. Friday when three armed people robbed a victim and made their getaway in a stolen van.

Officers spotted the van and chased it into Edgecombe County where it crashed on Battleboro-Leggett Road.

Police are continuing to look for Montrell Whitaker, 24. He is wanted on charges of armed robbery, breaking and entering a motor vehicle, and felony flee/elude arrest.

One male suspect is dead following an armed robbery in Rocky Mount Friday night.

Authorities say three armed suspects robbed an individual shortly before 10 p.m. in the 800 block of Jeffreys Road. The three suspects then took the victim's van and drove away.

The van was found driving on North Wesleyan Boulevard, but the suspects failed to stop.

Officers continued to follow the van into Edgecombe County, where it crashed in the 5000 block of Battleboro-Leggett Road.

One male suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

The names of the suspects have not been identified, pending notification of the family.

The Rocky Mount Police Department is asking anyone with information to contact them or the Twin County Crime Stoppers.
