A man who spent nearly a week in the hospital after being shot has been charged in the case.

Onslow County deputies say Taylor Vogel, 33, was charged yesterday with simple assault and criminal trespassing. Both of those are misdemeanor charges.

The shooting happened in the early morning hours of last Tuesday on Seabird Court in Sneads Ferry.

Deputies say Martin Nozar, also from Sneads Ferry, told them Vogel came into the home and "assaulted me to the point I had to fire my firearm."

Vogel is accused of forcing his way into the home where his estranged wife lived and was shot twice in the abdomen.

Deputies say after consulting with the District Attorney's Office they decided not charge Nozar with the shooting.

Vogel posted bond and has a September 10th court date.
