GOLDSBORO, N.C. (WITN) - A woman has been charged after police say she tried to hit people with her car.
Goldsboro police charged Sharon Merchant from Hartnett County with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
Police say an officer had to fire a shot to stop a driver from hitting people with a car on Day Circle Saturday night. They say one person was hit, but is expected to live.
Police say the department is investigating this to see if any policies were violated. The officer isn't on patrol during the investigation, but instead is working in an administrative role.
Merchant is being held under a $100,000 bond and is expected to make her first appearance in court on Tuesday.
Officers had to fire shots while breaking up a party over the weekend.
Goldsboro police say someone was trying to hit other people with their car near Day Circle.
Officers then fired a shot to stop that driver from hurting anybody else.
Nobody inside the car was hurt, but one person was hit by the car.
The victim was taken to the hospital where they are expected to recover.
No officers were hurt and no names have been released.
