MOREHEAD CITY, NC (WITN) - A community all too familiar with the devastation a hurricane can cause is coming together just before the holidays to help another area hard hit by Hurricane Dorian.
The Mike Toler Car Dealership in Morehead City is collecting nonperishable food for residents on Ocracoke Island.
Many people are still reeling after a devastating blow from Hurricane Dorian back in September.
Volunteers are hoping to collect items for holiday meals and they're asking the community to join them and help residents on Ocracoke.
Louis Clark is the food drive organizer and said he hopes people will be generous and giving.
"It just feels good to be able to help especially this time of year, holidays can be difficult for a lot of people as it is, and this can maybe give them a little morale boost and let them know in Ocracoke that there are people outside of that community that care," said Clark.
If you would like to donate, non-perishable food items can be dropped off until Saturday at the Mike Toler Car Dealership on Arendell Street in Morehead City.
They hope to deliver the food items early next week.
