HAVELOCK, NC (WITN) - Once again there's been a big sewage spill from a beleaguered manhole in one Eastern Carolina city.
Havelock says 51,750 gallons of sewage escaped from a manhole on Oakwood Drive on Monday.
That sewage got into Caps Branch, which flows into Slocum Creek.
The National Weather Service says more than three inches of rain hit Havelock on Monday.
Since 2015, there have been 11 different spills from the same manhole. The largest was 200,000 gallons.
The state Department of Environmental Quality has fined the city in the past for spills and was notified of this latest one.
The city said in May that it has spent over $700,000 on repair work on the troubled sewage line.
