North Carolina judicial elections all but set as filing ends

Judicial elections in North Carolina are all but set for November with the candidate filing period over for trial and appeals courts.

Candidates had until noon Friday to turn in paperwork to the state elections board in Raleigh.

Raleigh attorney Chris Anglin was a last-minute addition to the state Supreme Court race already featuring incumbent Associate Justice Barbara Jackson and civil rights lawyer Anita Earls. Two of the three statewide Court of Appeals races also have three candidates.

Judicial elections are unusual this year because the General Assembly canceled primaries because they were debating judicial district and selection changes.

The top vote-getter for each position in November is elected whatever the percentage of the vote received. Candidates will have their registered voter affiliation next to their names on the ballot.
