New YMCA programs underway in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, NC (WITN) Registration is open for a new YMCA in Onslow County.

The New River YMCA in Jacksonville is on schedule with construction, and expected to open next month. However, summer camps are now offered at two Onslow County elementary schools until the building opens.

Contractors are completing electrical, plumbing, and air ventilation systems.

The $500,000 project is expected to be done before the upcoming school year.

Todd Shuart, Eastern Carolina YMCA President says, "We're standing in what's going to be the lobby area, hoping that we can get the building open sometime in late August. You see, there's a lot more work to be done, but the contractor has been great with keeping on schedule."

The New River YMCA is hiring employees for all positions.

Those interested in employment, summer programs, or programming that begins once the building opens, can contact the Twin Rivers YMCA in New Bern.
