New Bern unveils license plate honoring linemen

NEW BERN, NC (WITN) - A new license plate is being unveiled to honor linemen.

Governor Roy Cooper signed a bill creating the new license plate right before Hurricane Dorian struck. The plate, which reads “Keeping the Lights On,” pays tribute to the hard work of linemen.

The city of New Bern is unveiling a life-size version of the license plate Wednesday morning. ElectriCities CEO Roy Jones, Mayor Dana Outlaw and City Manager Mark Stephens will all be in attendance.

The license plate will be on display during MumFest.

The license plate costs $30 with $20 benefiting the UNC Burn Center, according to the NC Electric Cooperatives.
