Previous Story

Police have identified a man gunned down last night in New Bern.

New Bern police say the murder happened around 7:15 p.m. in the 1900 block of Stimpson Street.

The mother of 39-year-old Deandre Hill witnessed the shooting, according to a close relative. The man died later at CarolinaEast Medical Center, according to a police news release.

Neighbors are describing Hill as a hardworking man who was helpful in the area.

"He worked everyday, always had a job, you know go to work and come home and I heard someone tell me this morning that he brought an older gentleman food by the house from time to time so that's the type of person he was," said neighbor Everett McNeil.

Reva Greer, one of Hill's neighbors, says she learned about the death from her children, "My son said, "Did y'all hear that someone just got shot, and my son and daughter went outside and that's when we found out my neighbors son got killed."

Police tell us they are still trying to piece everything together and they do not have any person of interest or suspect information to release at this time.

Hill is the city's second homicide victim this year.
