UPDATE: Police make make arrest in armed home invasion investigation

The New Bern Police Department says they have made an arrest in a home invasion investigation where gunfire rang out early Friday morning.

New Bern Police arrested Jimmie Dunn Jr., 43, and have charged him with 1st Degree Burglary, Robbery with a Firearm, and Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Police say an armed man forced his way inside a home in the area of Purifoy Street and demanded money around 6:18 a.m. Friday morning.

The victim gave the intruder money and a struggle ensued according to authorities. During the struggle, police say the victim was able to retrieve a handgun and fired several shots at the suspect.

New Bern officers say Dunn sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the incident and was treated then released from CarolinaEast Medical Center.

Dunn Jr. was placed under a $1,000,000 bond ahead of his first court appearance on Monday in Craven County District Court.

Police say the victim in a home invasion fired shots at the man who forced his way in his home early Friday morning.

New Bern police say it happened around 6:20 a.m. in the area of Purifoy Street.

After the armed man forced his way inside the home, the victim gave him money and the two began to struggle. The victim was injured in that struggle, but was able to retrieve a handgun and fired several shots at the intruder.

Police say it's not know if the intruder was hit by the gunfire. He is described as a white man, approximately 5'7" tall with a slim build.
