NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) - The countdown to MumFest is almost over. The kick-off concert gets underway Friday night, and then this weekend 100,000 visitors head to downtown New Bern for the two-day festival.
Swiss Bear is the organization that puts together MumFest and they say this festival was created to help boost the local economy.
It's a festival that spans multiple streets and parks in historic downtown New Bern.
MumFest is an opportunity for non-profit organizations and local businesses to show a larger crowd of visitors, that may not be familiar with the city, what they do.
Business owners say to meet so many people is great for their business both short term and long term, but it's not just the local businesses that MumFest organizers say the festival helps.
"In addition to the economic boost it provides to the city of New Bern, it also is an economic boost to all of these small business owners that come into MumFest with their booths, and this is how they make their living, and they go from festival to festivals selling their wares and their food," explains Lynne Harakal, the director of Swiss Bear.
Organizers say every year the event fills hotels within the entire city, not just the downtown region. Plus, they say it's a festival that helps bring visitors back for longer visits.
Nearly 300 vendors will come up and line the streets of downtown New Bern.
WITN is a proud sponsor of MumFest.
