New Bern Public Safety departments hold recognition ceremony

NEW BERN, NC (WITN) Oaths were pledged and new badges were pinned Monday afternoon in New Bern as police and fire staff were honored at a public safety recognition and promotion ceremony.

Among the most notable promotions was Major Bobby Jones of the police department, who was named the departments new deputy chief, the first for the department in several years.

Lt. David Daniels and Lt. Marquie Morrison-Brown were also both promoted to the rank of captain, along with seven other members who received their pins as new members of the department.

The public safety ceremony was held by the city for the second consecutive year. Mayor Dana Outlaw and City Manager Mark Stephens also thanked members of both departments, recognizing them for their efforts last fall during Hurricane Florence.
