Officers are calling it one of the worst cases of animal cruelty they've seen.

Three men in the east are now behind bars after officials say the men were using dogs for violent dog fights.

New Bern Police officers arrested Saman Reaves, Anthony Mackmore and Aaron Inman, Jr.

After searching the home on West Street in New Bern, officials say they found marijuana, heroin, meth, and stolen firearms.

In the backyard, they found seven dogs that appeared to be malnourished.

The dogs were chained to posts with heavy chains and showed signs of abuse, including cuts, sores, and wounds. Officers say the dogs were being used in violent dog fights.

The animals were taken to a local veterinarian's office for treatment.

They are now in fair condition at the Craven Pamlico Animal Services Center.

All three men face drug charges, cruelty to animals, fighting and baiting among several other charges.
