JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - As we continue through February, the month dedicated to heart health, one Eastern Carolina medical facility hosted an event dedicated to heart wellness.
A Heart Health Fair was held at Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune on Thursday with the goal of educating beneficiaries on how to keep the vital organ healthy.
Community members could get their blood pressure, basic lab work, and BMI measurements done at the event.
Medical professionals say a healthy heart is the key to a healthy life.
"Even as you become a teenager or an early adult, this is the time to make good nutrition going on with what you're eating, avoiding fatty foods, or a lot of carbonated drinks or avoiding a lot of sugars," says Dr. Cicely Dye, the chief of cardiology at the center.
Heart Health Month continues at the Naval Medical Center with a 5K Heart Run on Monday,
