National Weather Service confirms a tornado hit Emerald Isle

After some severe weather Saturday, the National Weather Service confirmed a tornado damaged several homes in Emerald Isle.

Officials say an EF-2 tornado hit the town around 2 p.m. and estimate that wind speeds got as high as 120 mph.

The tornado started near the intersection of 8th Street and Ocean Drive damage the roofs of several homes. A large work trailer was also overturned.

A report says part of the roofing material torn off a home landed across Hwy 58.

No was injured by the tornado according to officials with the National Weather Service.
