CARTERET COUNTY, NC (WITN) - It’s National Police Week and all week long communities are celebrating and honoring the men and women who protect us.
Law enforcement officers often put their lives on the line keeping communities safe. Several of those officers shared why they do it, despite the dangers of the job.
“Tragedy strikes for people every single day and it’s nice to be able to be there for those people and help them bear that load a little bit,” said Mark Stewart with the Morehead City Police Department.
The answers varied, but the theme of making a difference in the communities remained the same. Jordan Seitter with Pine Knoll Shores PD said, “Everyday I come to work it’s something different I get to meet new people, new families.”
Wednesday is National Pace Officer Day. Law enforcement agencies and communities they serve will honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. A special ceremony is being held in Washington DC.
