Murder suspect in custody following high speed chase in Brunswick County

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - A murder suspect is behind bars after leading authorities on a high speed chase that ended in a crash.

Brunswick County deputies performed a pit maneuver to stop the suspect along Ocean Isle Beach Road.

30-year-old Torrence O'Neal Helms of Calabash was taken into custody after a brief foot chase.

Deputies say he stabbed three people in a Shalotte home before the chase.

Two of those victims died. The third is being treated for her injuries.

Helms is charged with two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, flee/elude arrest with a motor vehicle and resisting a public officer.
