Organizers of one of the biggest festivals in Eastern Carolina are busy making preparations for this year's event, which they say is on track to be bigger than ever.

For more than 35 years MumFest has taken over the streets of downtown New Bern showing off local non-profits and businesses.

After seeing more than 100,000 people enjoy the festival, event organizers say they've made this year's even better.

Games, rides, and a lot of arts and crafts vendors are just a few of the staples that have become a beloved part of MumFest.

"There will be a couple of rock climbing walls, there is going to be a knocker ball area, which are those inflatable balls you climb inside of and you can roll around, there will also be some fairy tale princesses that will be arriving to the festival," says Lynne Harakal, the executive director of Swiss Bear.

Every year organizers with Swiss Bear Downtown Development add to the weekend-long event with new and exciting entertainment and 2017 is no exception.

"Some of the things we have new coming in this year is Imagine Circus, which is kind of like a Cirque du Soleil kind of group that's actually out of Raleigh, and they are phenomenal and they will do aerial acts and acrobatic acts possibly," Harakal says.

On top of all of that, for the third year in a row MumFest will hold a kick-off concert on Friday night.

"We're beyond thrilled to announce that Brett Young will be our headlining act, Brett has currently just got off his second number one single off of his debut album," says Buddy Bengel, a Swiss Bear board member.

Something that is also new this year, festival organizers say there are going to be a lot of really great food trucks that will offer something a little bit different from your typical festival food, which is also be available.

WITN is very proud to once again be a sponsor of MumFest.

The kickoff concert is Friday, October 13th, with the festival on the 14th and 15th.
